What We Treat

Pregnancy and Postpartum

The pelvic floor plays a critical role in supporting your body and your baby during pregnancy. We help mothers during all stages of their pregnancy maintain a healthy pelvic floor as well as restore balance to their bodies postpartum. For a more in-depth dive into pre- and post-natal pelvic floor PT, check out our blog post here!

Prenatal Care

Physical therapy can be incredibly beneficial for prenatal care, helping pregnant individuals manage discomfort, improve mobility, and prepare their bodies for childbirth. Pregnant women may experience pain in various areas such as the hip or low back (see Orthopedic Conditions for more on specific regions of pain).

Therapy techniques for prenatal care include pelvic floor strengthening, core strengthening, posture correction, stretching, and pain management. In addition, we provide education labor and can also create a personalized exercise program for your prenatal needs.

Postnatal Care

Physical therapy is also highly beneficial for postnatal care, which includes helping new mothers recover from childbirth, addressing any physical issues that may have arisen during pregnancy, and regaining strength and mobility.

Therapy techniques for postnatal care include pelvic floor rehabilitation, core strengthening, musculoskeletal pain management through manual therapy, scar tissue restriction, relaxation techniques for stress reduction, and breastfeeding support. We can also create personalized return-to-exercise programs for clients based on individual needs.

Diastasis Recti

Diastasis recti is a condition where the abdominal muscles separate, typically due to pregnancy or excessive abdominal pressure. This separation can lead to a bulge in the middle of the abdomen and may cause lower back pain or difficulty with activities that require core strength.

Treatment often involves core muscle strengthening, specifically targeting the transverse abdominis, pelvic floor muscles, and obliques.
